Jayawardene: We didn't bat fine

Kochi Tuskers Kerala captain Mahela Jayawardene on Sunday answerable his batsmen for putting up a careless show and said his team failed to become accustomed to the circumstances at the Sawai Mansingh stadium.

The Tuskers on Sunday succumb to a eight-wicket defeat to see their three-game winning band snap and Jayawardene said it was just a bad day in office and hope his team will rebound back in the days to come.
"It was going to be a hard task with the dew, we desirable another 20-30 runs more, we didn't bat well and they bowled well up front," the Sri Lankan said after the match.

"We needed to take wickets and not give them thrust. Rahul and Watson showed their knowledge and played really well. We tried our best. We didn't have a good day in the office. Optimistically we will come back. After the start we had, I thought 120-130 was a good score, but we couldn't execute, but abundance to learn from this. We have to adapt to good conditions. It is a close table this time around, everything is thrashing each other, we need to keep focus and we can be top of the table again," he said.

Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne spoken happiness at his team's performance and said his boys show a lot of character to bounce back. "Our strength was very good from ball one, the boys showed a lot of character today, we had a good record at home and it was a fulfilling win," the Australian said.

"They worked attractive hard, back room staff also were forever working with them. We had a few hiccups in the last few games but we bounce back in forceful style today," he added. Asked about all-rounder Shane Watson, who scored a 40-ball 49, including four fours and two sixes, Warne said he is one of the best in the commerce at present..

"Watson is such a super player, debatably the best player in the world at instant, especially any form of the game, he is so unhelpful and his bowling is also coming good," he said. The Royals jump to the second spot in the points table after their win over the Tuskers and Warne said it would be significant to keep the momentum in the business end of the tournament to enter the knock-out stage.

"We don't look too much at the table; we are still at the middle stage. It's significant to get some victories and impetus going in the final stages. We have four-five days off now, looking forward to that," said Warne, who was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his three-wicket haul.Watson said the track was two-paced and it help the bowlers.

"I was scratchy to start with; it was nice to hit a few big boundaries towards the end. It is usually a good wicket here, but it was a bit two-paced today, and good for the bowling side. I love opening, but will bat wherever Warnie wants me to," he said.

Sachin: Symonds is a victor batsman

Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday praise Andrew Symonds, with whom the Indians were involved in a national row three years ago, for his fine batting show in Mumbai Indians' IPL match next to Deccan Chargers.
Rohit Sharma and Symonds stitch 102 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket stand to take MI to 172 for four which twisted out to be the winning total.

"Davy Jacobs gave a very good start (with a 20-ball 32) and then we lost three wickets (at same score of 70). But Rohit batted fantastic and Symonds was batting like a champion," Tendulkar said after his side beat Deccan by 37 runs.

"172 was a good total but I feel we were little by 20-25 runs. Rohit and Symonds batted in different styles but the champion batsmen they are they took to a challenging total after we lost three quick wickets," said Tendulkar, who twisted 38 on Sunday.

Mumbai Indians have been shaping up as the best fielding side in the IPLunder the guidance of former South African star Jonty Rhodes and Tendulkar was pleased with another fine show today after a similar performance in their last match.

"I consideration our fielding was brilliant. There were a couple of run-outs we had affected and Davy Jacobs producing a great stump. We have to follow up the good presentation in the outstanding matches," he said.
Mumbai Indians have played five matches in 15 days and Tendulkar has no complaint although he said he would have loved to have breaks.

"If you are a 38-year-old it is good to have breaks, may be not for a 19-year-old. We have two young people in the team. But to plan for an entire event is not an easy job. You cannot have every team playing every second day. There will have to be times when you play three games in six days and then you get two games in 10 days. But that is the beauty of this event. You adapt to different circumstances and you learn dissimilar things along the way," said Tendulkar.

Deccan captain Kumar Sangakkara said his bowlers unsuccessful to bowl the right line and length at the death of the Mumbai innings and the late assault by Rohit and Symonds had taken the game away from his side.
"172 were gettable but they should never have got to that much. We were bowling very well till the 16th over but the 60-odd runs in the last four overs by Rohit and Symonds took the game away from us.
"Rohit and Symonds hit the loose ones out of the park. Our bowlers erred in line and length at the death overs. We talked about it but we failed to carry out our plans," he said.

"Our start in the run chase was not too bad but we lost wickets frequently and had two run-outs. Trying to score 13-14 every over off guys like Lasith Malinga towards the end is very tough," said the former Sri Lankan captain.

Man of the Match Malinga said it was easier to bowl Yorkers with the old ball but he is practicing to do the same with the new ball also.

"I always try to go for wickets and I am very happy today. I have told Sachin anytime he wants me to bowl, I am there. It does not substance new ball or old ball. Bowling yorkers with the new ball is not easy, but I try to carry out in the nets with both new and old ball," said Malinga who took three wickets for nine runs.

Asked about is challenging knee, Malinga said, "I have retired from Test cricket but I hope to carry on playing ODIs and T20."

Struggling hosts hope for series leveler

Struggling hosts hope for series leveler

West Indies' joy after their win in the opportunity Twenty20 of Pakistan's tour was short-lived as they not working to an eight-wicket drubbing in the opening one-day global at Gros Islet. After the buzz and power of their performance in the Twenty20, the hosts looked badly behind the pace for much of the game on Saturday and a fatal misreading of the pitch backfire when the seamers were cart for 162 runs in 29.3 wicketless overs, allowing Pakistan's batsmen to canter to victory on a spin-friendly wicket.

Monday's game, played at the same venue, will give West Indies a chance to correct some of their mistakes. The question of team balance is a delicate one for them, however, and the inclusion of both Captain Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo when it might be argue that only one of the two similar all-rounders should slot in at No. 7 in a balanced XI throws the team's ballast off centre. West Indies looked a batsman light on Saturday, but it's likely that legspinner Anthony Martin will be bring in for the second ODI - almost certainly at the expense of allrounder Andre Russell - meaning that there will be even less bat firepower, heap more force on a top order shorn of its most practiced members.

The lack of bite in the seam attack on passive pitches also doesn't bode well for the Test series that follows the one-dayers, and for the sake of achievement in both formats West Indies are going to have to find a way to take more wickets. The one area of concern for Pakistan - and it's a moderately minor one for a team that has moved seamlessly on from beat in the tour opener with a commanding performance by both the batsmen and an inspiring trio of spinners - can also be found in the seam department. Wahab Riaz gave away 11 wides and three no-balls on Saturday, while Junaid Khan also sent down six wides, and with no the help of extras West Indies would not have passed 200.

Such variation is inexcusable on a pitch that offered minimal group for the quicks either through the air or off the pitch, but so masterful was the presentation from Pakistan's slow bowlers - in particular Saeed Ajmal, whose variation proved impossible to pick - and so composed were their batsmen, three of whom scored half-centuries, that eventually it barely mattered. West Indies will be aggravated to regain some pride and level the five-match series, but it is Pakistan who starts as firm favourites. .
