Sri Lanka rejected Pakistan tour

Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday long-established they had discarded a present to tour Pakistan due to security concerns.

Pakistan has not hosted international cricket inside its own borders since an attack on Sri Lanka's team bus in Lahore left seven players and a supporter coach wounded in 2009.

Six Pakistani policemen and two civilians were killed in the attack, which occur when gunmen ambush the bus and opened fire.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had hope to coax Sri Lanka back for a tour in October, propose a series comprise of three Tests, five one-day internationals and one Twenty20 match.

However, an attack at a Karachi naval base on Sunday has encouraged the SLC to put the safety of its players first, deciding to knock back the request in spite of the PCB's assurances of safety.

"We have refused to tour Pakistan," an SLC spokesman said. "We are anxious about the security and that's why we said no to them."

Since the 2009 attack, Pakistan have been required to play their home series in neutral territory, counting the United Arab Emirates, England and New Zealand, with no cricketing nation willing to tour the troubled country.
